I’ll be the first to admit that I rarely carry my DSLR camera around with me these days. It’s pretty bulky and heavy, and I just don’t feel like making my arms do all that extra work.
As someone who tends to opt for my iPhone camera for everyday life, and someone who runs multiple Instagram accounts (my own, my dog’s, my sorority’s, etc.), being able to edit my photos easily on my phone is a must. Unfortunately, I never liked posting my phone photos since I couldn’t seem to get them to look the same way as my camera photos in order to match my feed. I’d have to send the photos to my computer, import them into Lightroom, edit them, export them, send them back to myself… you get the picture. It just never really seemed worth it.
But everything changed when I found Lightroom Mobile! Seriously, this app is incredible. I loved how I could make most of the same adjustments on my phone as I could on my desktop. But things got even better when I figured out how to use my same custom presets I use on my desktop on my phone! Instead of having to make each adjustment one by one, I could do a one-click edit with my preset.
There are several ways you can use your own presets on Lightroom Mobile. Here are two of the easiest ways!
This will only work if you have a subscription to Adobe Lightroom on your computer! Begin by creating a new collection in Lightroom on your computer. I recommend titling it something like “LR Mobile Presets” so it’s easy to find! Then, add an image to the folder.
Go to the Develop module and apply the preset of your choice to the image in the collection. Then, in the panel on the left-hand side where the names of all your collections are, right-click on the collection name (ex. LR Mobile Presets) that you just created, then click “Sync With Lightroom CC.”
If you have the Lightroom Mobile app on your phone and are signed in with your Creative Cloud account, this collection will appear in the app! Now you can go to the image that you applied the preset to, click the three little dots icon in the top right corner (looks kinda like this: •••), and press either “Copy Settings” (which you can later paste to another image) or “Create Preset” (which will allow you to save the settings as a preset on the app which you can apply to other images).
If find yourself consistently making the same adjustments in your Lightroom Mobile app, you can create a preset based on the settings and adjustments you make right in the app!
To begin, import a new photo into the Lightroom Mobile app, then make all the adjustments you want until the photo looks the way you like it. Then, in the top right-hand corner, click the icon that looks like this: •••. Next, select “Create Preset,” give it a name, and check all the categories you want to include in your preset.
Tip: You probably don’t want to check “Tools” in this. Any adjustments you made like the Selective editing, healing, or cropping isn’t necessarily something you want to apply in the same way to every photo you edit.
Once you press “Save,” your preset will appear under the “Presets” tab in the Lightroom Mobile app (usually in the “User Presets” folder)! Now you can apply it to any other image in your Lightroom Mobile app.
Because this has changed the way I edit my iPhone photos so drastically, I wanted to show you how to edit your own photos using Lightroom Mobile! I even created a free preset for you to download with instructions on how to install it so you can try it out right away!
Once you apply the preset to your photo, sometimes you don’t have to make any adjustments to it. Other times, all it needs is a little boost in the exposure or a change in the temperature!
Enjoy, and I can’t wait to see your before and afters using this preset! If you have any questions about it, feel free to reach out to me 🙂
