I get asked all the time how Hudson and I met and how he proposed, and I just realized I never shared about it on the blog! I think it’s really important to connect with the couples I work with on a personal level, and that requires that I have to share about my personal life a little more 🙂
Hudson and I met our freshman year of college at Baylor University! We *technically* met in the office of an apartment management company in November 2015. My roommates and I were in there signing our lease, and in walked three boys who were there to do the same (spoiler: it was Hudson and his two roommates). One of my roommates struck up a conversation with them, and we soon discovered they were signing a lease for the apartment right downstairs from us. Hudson and I both swear we don’t even remember seeing each other there that day, haha!
Well, we kept running into two of the three boys we met the following semester and quickly became friends with them. Neither of those boys were Hudson though, and we always asked about who the heck their other roommate was since we never saw him!
About a month later, we decided to take a spontaneous trip to Austin for dinner, and one of the boys asked Hudson to join us. He said, “You’re about to meet your new best friends!” 🙂 Well, he was right, and we all quickly became really close friends and hung out all the time!
Fast forward a couple months, Hudson told me he liked me and wanted to take me on a date. It took me awhile to come around, but I eventually said yes and we were ~officially~ dating shortly after that!
Fast forward about three years! Hudson and I had been talking about getting married once we graduated college for awhile, and I knew it was just a matter of time. I also knew he hadn’t asked my dad yet though, so I wasn’t totally sure when that was happening. One night after dinner, he very awkwardly asked my dad if he could talk to him outside for a moment 😉
After that, we all knew it was just a matter of time before he proposed! I’m not the most patient person, so we actually started looking at wedding venues and booked one before he had actually proposed.
Hudson also told me that we’d be engaged by Thanksgiving. The week before Thanksgiving, I naturally bought several cute outfits and got my nails done so I would be prepared when it happened! I kept waiting and waiting, and finally the week of Thanksgiving arrived and still no proposal!
I knew we were both leaving Waco to see our families the day before Thanksgiving, so it had to be either Monday or Tuesday! On Monday, I noticed all my roommates happened to be at home at a time when they normally weren’t, so I was convinced it was happing that day. I got dressed in a beautiful black dress and just started pacing around since I was so nervous!
A little while later, I second-guessed my outfit decision and decided to change clothes. I put on a blue dress instead… let’s just say I really wish I hadn’t! I have a really bad habit of buying clothes that are way too big for me! This dress is actually two sizes too big, but it was on sale and the last one in stock so I got it anyway 😑 Regrets! I now know it’s not super flattering in photos to wear a dress two sizes too big!
Anyway, back to the story! Shortly after I changed clothes, Hudson knocked on the door. When I saw he wasn’t wearing his usual t-shirt and shorts, I knew it was for sure happening! We got in the car and he drove us to the spot at Cameron Park where we went on our second date. I honestly don’t remember a word he said during the proposal! All I know is that he asked me to marry him and I said yes!
He had also gotten a photographer to capture it all (thank you Angel for the beautiful photos!), and we spent some time getting a few just-engaged portraits!
After we were done, Hudson drove us back to my house where my roommates had thrown us an incredible engagement party and invited all our closest friends to celebrate with us! My best friend from high school who is also one of my maids-of-honor even drove in from College Station to be there which was so special!
It truly was the best day!!! We’ve had so much fun so far planning our November wedding, but we’re both just so ready for it to be here already!
Now that we’re both done with school, we’ll have a lot more time to focus on wedding planning and enjoying the engagement season! We’re also taking our engagement photos with our wedding photographer, Annamarie Akins, in less than a month. Y’all don’t even know how excited I am for those!!
I’m just so incredibly grateful to God that He blessed me with such an amazing future husband! November can’t come soon enough!!
